Are you looking for a
unique warm weather winter experience?
If so, please consider a volunteer
service trip to Safe Passage in Guatemala this February. During the winter
school break vacation we are planning to send a team of Rotarians to
volunteer at the Camino Seguro School in the Guatemala City Garbage dump area.
We will work in the classrooms during the day and stay in beautiful Antigua at
night. The week also consists of spending time in the Guarderia (pre-school),
visiting all the programs of Safe Passage & the dump and going on an
excursion in Guatemala with the classroom we work with all week.
On our scheduled
middle of the week day off we will visit our good friends the Hernandez family
in San Antonio and share a day with this family of weavers and see back strap weaving and a typical Guatemalan meal with them. This
is very good experience to see first-hand how the average Guatemalan
works and lives.
On the weekend
there are many opportunities to shop and enjoy the wonderful cultural
city of Antigua or take a day trip to climb an active volcano, or go zip-lining through the forest, if you are looking for more adventure. We are also
hoping to again visit the district water project in Chipastor in the middle
of the Guatemalan Highlands.
If you would like to know
more about this once in a lifetime experience, please contact Doug
Ibarguen (dribar@fairpoint.net) or
Al Feather (fenwayal@msn.com) for more
details.
Spending time with the
children of Safe Passage and seeing the beauty of Guatemala and its
people will be a life changing experience for all
involved!
Gracias,
